Is an All-Electric MINI Coming in 2020?

Many manufacturers are turning toward all-electric cars, and MINI is next. Our team of MINI car dealers at MINI of Chicago are excited about what’s in store for the future of the brand, and what an all-electric car will mean for the lineup.

Electric vehicles offer plenty of appeal. Between the increased availability of torque, and the sheer amount of fuel savings, an all-electric vehicle can revolutionize a family lineup. The 2020 Mini Cooper SE is that shake-up for the family of MINI models. At first glance, the 2020 MINI Cooper SE looks like a concept car, and in many ways, this is an experiment for the MINI brand as it is their first step into the all-electric market.

Beneath the hood of the 2020 MINI Cooper SE is 32.6-kWh battery that can launch this sporty compact car from 0 to 62 miles per hour in just under 7.3 seconds. The battery offers up an equivalent output of 181 horsepower and has a maximum range of 146 miles. Drivers will find a nifty electric port on the right side of the vehicle above the rear wheel, and at a fast-charging 50 kW charging station can get up to 80% battery in as little as 35 minutes. While the battery does weigh down the vehicle a bit, the electric motor offers a certainly impressive performance, and in a race could even compete with a traditional drivetrain.

While the 2020 MINI Cooper SE has yet to reach our showroom floor, we offer a wide variety of other new MINI cars that can keep you satisfied until then. Our team at MINI of Chicago is excited about what the future has in store for the MINI Cooper and is ready and willing to show you everything new to the family lineup.
